ROCKTAIL CAMP

Rocktail Camp’s fourteen en-suite tents (including four family tents and a honeymoon tent) are nestled among the ages-old trees of the dune forest, just 15 minutes’ walk from an almost endless sweep of deserted sandy beach.

Rocktail is the starting point for your Maputaland adventures, whether you enjoy them on foot, by vehicle or by boat. The main area features a large pool, dining room (where we serve sustainable, organic and largely plant-based cuisine), lounge and wrap-around veranda for relaxing between activities, while the raised viewing deck offers panoramic ocean vistas.

Rocktail’s protected beaches provide nesting grounds for endangered turtles and playgrounds for excited children, while the untouched inshore reefs of the Maputaland Marine Reserve invite exploration by snorkelers and divers.

Your children will love exploring the forests and rockpools, while you can reconnect with the people who mean most to you, in a place that none of you will ever forget.

ACCOMMODATION

Classic safari-style tents with en-suite bathrooms and private decks beneath the shade of the forest canopy. Each tent is built on a raised wooden deck, allowing views into the trees and the opportunity to spot birds and monkeys. Family tents feature two bedrooms linked by a shared bathroom, and each tent is equipped with a safe, laundry basket and shower amenities.

FACILITIES

Rocktail Camp features a spacious and relaxing main area which is the starting point for all your ocean and forest adventures, with the fully equipped dive centre just a few steps away. Panoramic ocean vistas can be enjoyed from the camp’s viewing deck, while the wraparound veranda and large pool offer plenty of slow life opportunities.

ACTIVITIES

The Maputaland Marine Reserve lies just offshore, with some of the world’s best tropical diving and snorkelling on flourishing reefs. Ocean Safari experiences offer the opportunity to encounter seasonally migrating humpback whales. Guided or unguided forest walks reveal the secrets of the dunes, and kids can enjoy a whole wealth of activities, from energetic to educational.

DINING

In keeping with our sustainability ethos, dining at Rocktail Camp centres on organic, plant-based cuisine (meat options are available on request, although we do not serve seafood – we’d rather catch sight of our marine neighbours, than catch them to eat). Our kitchen team will gladly accommodate special dietary requirements – prior notice will help ensure the best possible dining experience.
